The Farmer's Daughter Runs for Miss Tennessee
How one 17 year old farmer wants to make a difference by bringing agricultural literacy to students
Lily Steed has not had a normal childhood. Between waking up at the break of dawn to feed pigs, coming home to plant strawberries or cancelling weekend plans to work cows, Lily knows that her job as a farmer is more important than other obligations. She wants others to understand how hard farmers work and have a appreciation for the work put into each meal they consume. This is her platform for the Miss Tennessee Competition this June and she knows that whether or not she gets the crown, she has won by getting to share about agriculture's importance.

INTERVIEWER 1: I am a next-generation family farmer and one of the crops that we do, we do is pick your own strawberry farm. So we have everything that underneath these blankets white things is strawberry. We do a lot more things just besides strawberries we have a storefront here and whenever people come to our farm, they see the storefront they see the strawberry patch, they see the Christmas trees behind me, and that's what they see that's what they think is the farm. But in the reality, if you drive up to my driveway you'll go past my house and you'll see what goes on behind the scenes and basically, there is a lot more to it than just what you see right here.
